A Set of Matching Panel Saws

On my last project post I said that I wanted a set of matching Lie-Nielsen panel saws. I still cant afford to buy them, but I did pick up some hardware to make my own. So here they are, a recently completed set (of three) panel saws. Each saw is 20-inches and features a nib. Two are filed rip cut, the third is filed cross cut, with a curly maple handle patterned after a Disston D-7 panel saw.

On the crosscut saw, the medallion is on the reverse side so that way you can see both medallions when fitted in a tool chest lid. The picture below is what I am envisioning, saws tucked away in the lid where you could see the medallions facing outward on each saw. (I do not know who made the chest as I found the image doing a Google search.)

Hopefully my next project will be something out of the workshop…unless its a tool chest. That would be excellent.

Thanks, Smitty. But the chest isnt mine, it was just to give a visual of how the medallions might be visible when the saws are hung on a tool chest lid.

Nice looking saws, Norm. Where do you get your saw plates?

Dave, the saw plates came from some Great Neck donor saws. I wrote about it in my blog if you are interested in more info.

super nice job on the saws…

Are the rip saws identical? I’m curious why you would want two of them the same. Guessing there’s something in the Galoot world I’m not aware of.

Please share where you purchased the hardware.

Thanks Turtle and Matt! The rip saws are identical., I will end up gifting one. The saw “plates” were purchased from Amazon in the form of Great Neck C26N 26” hand saws. The hardware came from Lie-Nielsen.
