This is my 1st cigar box guitar. The box is an Aturo Fuente.
The neck was made from a 3 foot piece of 1”x4” poplar from the home center. I ripped it in two, glued the faces together and sized it down to 1 1/2” x 1 1/2”. I then shaped the neck free hand with a drawknife, rasp and files.
The fretboard was made from a piece of walnut I had on hand.
It has an internal piezo pickup from Radio Shack. The scale length is 24.5”; the guitar is about 33” long.
I have a sample of the sound at my web site: Cigar Box Guitar #001 sound sample

Good stuff!
Did you use any reference materials or did you just wing it?

I didn’t use any specific plans. Cigar Box Nation web site was my main source of ideas plus I googled other builders and used what I liked from their builds.

Great guitar! Did you get the pleasure of initially emptying it as well?

Ironically – I don’t smoke. I showed my son in law some cigar box web sites, he really liked them and got me some cigar boxes from a tobacco shop. I owe him a guitar for the find.

Nice Arturo!! What did you use for frets? Did you set it up for slide or fretting?

I used regular fret wire for the frets. It is set up for a slide (high action).

That is too cool! It sounds like the theme from Deadwood. Nice job!
