Well thats what i would charge if I was going to sell it. It took a lot to build. The pen kit is ~$125 sterling silver kit from silverpenparts.com
I won it through a competition at penturners.org a while back. You can see all the pieces i started with, I cut and glued them all into a blank and the mounted the tubes, polished it with super glue.

Woods used: paduke, walnut, maple, purple heart, cherry.

Nice work. Bet that took some time to get the blank ready to turn. Any issues while turning?

as a pen turner myself i can really appreciate the work you put into this, just gorgeous.i agree about the price but ive found it very hard to get people tp pay what a fine hand made pen is worth.seems like 25 bucks is the point where most say i love your pens but not that much! i hope you can get it,and the top 3 for the day which this deserves.

Thanks pottz. Agreed. Though some people will pay more if they are in a pinch for a gift, then a cheap pen won’t work. Sometimes as gift to have that certain price point window for them to feel like they’ve given that acceptable gift.
As for top 3, I always seem to post things right at the wrong time to be considered for very long, but who knows. I hope this piece inspires some other wood workers out there.

Wow, that took a lot of pieces and time but the result is outstanding!
Would you call this ”penmanship”?

Ha! I see what you did there. If its not penmanship…then i dont have much otherwise.
And thank you all for the nice comments.

I’ve never seen anything like this before, it’s simply beautiful (even without the silver). Is there somewhere I could look for instructions on how to glue up a blank like that? I have the patience, but I can’t understand the geometry of the glue ups. Thanks.

Here is one document. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=http://content.penturners.org/library/penblanks/scallopedblank.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwjnrPr9lLvZAhVDb60KHdYHAokQFjACegQIABAB&usg=AOvVaw3q5o33tuoM5KaDmgIbPtd2

It is different from what i do as i do both sides at once cutting the tip of my blank like a 90 degree arrow point and gluing one of those v-block on it. Rotate it and repeat.

Thank you so much for the info. I don’t turn pens, but I’m sure I can use this in other ways. Very interesting how it all turns out. I can’t wait to try it out, it seems like the perfect thing to do with scraps that are too small for other projects. It’s always great to learn new things.
