Here is another pattern I designed for my candle tray series. This one I like to call “The Grizz” in honor of my good friend here on LJ’s – Grizzman. He has been a great friend since I arrived here at Lumberjocks and suggested I add a grizzly to my candle tray series, so I did this one especially for him. I used hickory wood for the first time and it scrolled just beautifully. It had enough grain in it to provide interest and color, yet it was strong enough to hold up to the delicate scrolling of the tree limbs. The color of it is amazing, and I used just plain mineral oil to finish it which I will give a final finish of spray shellac in a couple of days. I am also considering tinting the trees and bears with sheer acrylic color as I did with some of the other trays. If I do, I will certainly add more pictures. The last picture is the same tray done by my friend, Leldon. He chose a beautiful piece of black walnut and I also think that his looks amazing. I really hope you enjoy these designs.

You do beautiful work, my wife’s eyes and mouth both opened to an O when she saw this! I am sure this will be a hot seller among woodsmen’s types and people who like bears. I am sure she will want to order this pattern too!

I want to say thank you for all the nice comments on this project. It was one of those that I struggled with to get from what I saw in my head to what I actually drew and made. I wanted it extra nice because I never really dedicated a project to someone and I wanted it to be good. Grizz is a good friend, a great woodworker and always has positive things to say to make us all feel good. And he always makes us smile! There are so many others here too that I consider good friends even though I haven’t met you. What a great community we have here!
I appreciate the encouragement and support from all of you!
Sheila :)
