My best friend wanted a punch set tool holder to store his array of punches. Actually, I guess he has a couple of sets of punches. At first my friend wanted “me” to make him one myself. I found this quote on Google, “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach him how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime” is a quote from the Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu, founder of Taoism. So my buddy made the punch set tool holder from start to finish, yes he even applied the finish. He used the jointer, planer, band saw, table saw, drill press, hand drill, hand saw, block plane, random orbital sander all for the first time (well he probably used a hand saw and hand drill a few times before). Bottom line, it was a fun and rewarding project for the both of us and we still have all of our fingers.

This punch set tool holder was made by gluing together maple and walnut. Oak dowels were used at the base to ensure the project stays together in the long term. A Danish Oil finish was applied, again all done by my friend.

The end result is a robust punch set tool holder that highlights some of the figure in the maple. As far as I know, the design of the Tool Punch Holder is original as we came up with it ourselves. I can upload a sketch with dimensions if there is interest in doing one for yourself.

Good project, some good lessons learned as well.
