Like so many other LumberJocks, I got tired of the transportation issues associated with a separator system. Two units, hoses, wobbles, tangles and the like. So, I decided BUILD A CART!

Mine isn’t anything special, it’s all 11/16 ply and joinery is via my Kreg Jig kit.

I used what I had on hand. The interconnect between the vacuum and the separator is a length of PVC that has been mated to a 90 elbow and that has been expanded with my heat gun to fit my inlet port on my vacuum. The other end of the PVC has also been expanded to fit the flex hose and the hose is mated to the pip with a generous portion of HF electrical tape. This actually works well and I get a good seal and if I need to remove the bucket and hose, I’m not wasting the “good tape.”

The tall uprights provide storage for the power cables and hoses. Overall height of the cart is around 42 inches.

I deliberately made the base big enough to prevent tip overs, as well as to provide space for vacuum accessories outside of those residing on the vacuum.

Rather than use the vacuum on-board power switch, I opted to wire in a switched outlet with around 15 feet of lead for maximum convenience. I can pretty much cover the entire garage / shop with the cart plugged into the opposite side.

For wheels, I cannibalized an old Shop Vac that has a dead motor. I simply made block of hard pine, drilled a hole that was a touch smaller than the shaft and pounded the caster home. I then glued the assembly into the corners of the cart. Works good, and the glue will outlast the wood.

Overall, I’m happy. It keeps everything in place and makes for easy organization. And, if my wife or I need to take the vacuum alone, it’s still easily portable as nothing is permanently affixed to the unit.
