i enjoy walkin through the wood from a very young age. its a chance to relax and gathers ones thought ,as ever i spent half my time loking down trying to find a good stick….many years later i am now a father to a lovely son and i want to show him the joys of walking through a good wood. these two staffs only took a couple of days to make . my sons is made up from teak and maple on the main shaft and the top section is layerd with paduke, purple hart and curly maple….finished with a durable wax.. the larger on was more of a chalange… would not fit on the lathe….the main body is teak.. the decrotive midle is paduke and oak glued up in a long length …cut to length and rotated and glued into place…the top section is made from liugnum vitea…wonder full timber to work with if you are one for punishment….i have inserted a length of solid brass rod which is visible from the top which extends down a good 8 inches…it gives it a good weight for walkinh with and makes for a good balance point as shown on the wall…balanced on a screw fixed to the wall. useing some old school moulding planes and a lot of rubbing down i transformed a square pole to a tapered staff. most of the taper was taken down with a surface planer but alot of blood swaet and tears went in sanding it round by hand.. but pleased with the result.. finish in wax again ..many thanks .:)

Fine looking sticks jj , and the brass is a very sharp looking touch – well done.

Nice design and they turned out great. I have a good understanding of how much work you put into these!
