Hello all! I’m still alive, well, and kicking (carving!!!).

Just been taking it easy for awhile, thinking up new projects but had to complete a demo piece for an up-and-coming carving course. It’s a free-style interpretation of a river otter done in GlueLam wood. Got it out of the dumpster.
Wanted to convey a free form motion so I mounted the carving on a piece of Mexican driftwood. Species unknown but it was hard as a rock and had a dark inner red colour. The base was clear finished and again I bought so long ago that the species escapes me!
Finally, the last picture is a pride and joy of mine as I have the distinction of making the cover of the 2018 Hiver-Printemps Lee Valley catalogue. For all Ljers outside of Canada this is a French Canadian version of their catalogue.
My boots can now be considered as being bilingual! In the credits I’m referred to as ‘le sculpteur et professeur de sculpture’. The next milestone I’m waiting for is to be on the centrefold! Could you imagine me in a casual pose with a carved boot placed strategically to exhibit my charm and character!!!???

Le Professeur de sculpture du bois,

Roman, the Bootman!

Enjoyed seeing the river otter, Beautiful. My shop is alittle bigger than yours, harder to heat, minus 24 this morning, so staying in and watching Olympic Games. It has been a privilege to meet such a famous person, A book and now on the front cover of World Famous Lee Valley

Beautifully done.

Brian can watch the snow-show! He will be thinking of new projects all the while though!

Well across the frozen north it is a BBBB’’’’’RRRR situation; the crocuses and daffodils are starting here.

Congrats on making the cover! I’ve been enjoying your many boot carvings, you do a fantastic job. With that said, please take no offence when I say I will not rush out to purchase the centerfold issue haha. Nice otter too. Also, I really, really, like the long boot at the bottom of the cover, nice!
