I can’t remember exactly what kind of wood this was. It has a spicy smell to it when turning and sanding,

Very nice.
I can’t be certain, but this could be Narra. As an FYI, the wood we all know of as Amboyna Burl is actually burl wood from the Narra tree. This wood looks like it could be a non-burl version of Amboyna Burl.
