These are two turned vases that my husband made out of myrtlewood. The one has a glass tube inserted for flowers. The smaller of the two was a result of a crack that resulted in a redesign ( original plan was for a taller vase with what is now the base as the top!) – this was the recovery piece. The taller one with the glass insert is finished with a friction polish. The smaller one has a number of coats of spray on lacquer.

Nice turnings. Did you use a test tube for the insert?

Yes he drilled the opening with a 1-inch forstner bit and then the insert is a test tube that has a lip. I think it turned out really nice. I have yet to do any work on the lathe but he is really enjoying it.
