Banner Signs

I started this banner kick because I wanted a sign over my shop (really my garage) saying PAW’s Man Cave or something as corny. I made two with scrap 2×6 pine boards, one quite a bit larger than the second. Then my wife wanted one for her sewing room, but wanted something exotic and femanine like lace wood. So I made her a narrower one so it’ll look more like a ribbon. I thought “inlaying” the letters with crushed Lapis, Turquoise or Metalic Aqua might look nice. Thus the scrap piece with the three trial runs. I’m leaning more towards the middle one which is turquoise. What do you think?

I agree with the turquoise. It simply shows up in the photo the best. Clever idea to make banners over the doors. I wonder where it will stop? :)

Definately go with the turquoise! These would make interesting drawer pulls.

Looks like a banner day for you. I too like the turquoise(as if that makes a difference:). Very nice work there LP. My buddy(woodbutcher3) has one I’ve seen in person and that looks like something I DON’T want to try. You have a skill there dude.

really cool! I never thought about making something like that. Its such a cool looking banner that it looks like it should be really hard to build, but really its just some band saw work! I would have to say no to the lettering – I think if this is gonna be a “MAN CAVE” sign – the letters need to be burned in or routed or something more manly than pretty stones!! haha. Just my opinion. Very cool banners

probably too expensive – but could you put some sort of gold leaf letters??

I like the subtleness of the lapis. How thick was the blank?

Thanx for the responses, Thor, Qmoney, BigTiny, and rance. Looks like turquoise is ahead, but ultimately the boss (wife) decides what she wants on her ribbon sign.
dakremer: I agree. the big pine one was going to me my sign, but it got hijacked along with orders for two others. I was going to hand carve (or chisel) PAW’s ManCave on mine. You’re right about the pretty stones should be for the ladies.
Hippockets: The lace wood blank was 2” thick and was the scrap from a walking cane I’m working on. It sure was fun making ‘dem signs. The first one was the hardest; after the 3rd one, I think I worked out a system and now it’s fun. That’s allowed in the wood shop, isn’t it?

Nice banners – 3-D always adds to a project. I’m usually best on 2-D, like chip carving.
Love seeing these. Did you add any lettering?

WoodButcher3: Yes. Each one plus 4 more were made for a specific person or family. I gave them as Christmas presents and were they surprised! Last Christmas, everybody got what my wife and I made. She sews and I make saw dust. I’ve already started making stuff for next Christmas.

Those are really nice! What a good idea. I’ll bet they were well appreciated for Christmas gifts.

I like it. Very creative – I agree with Big Tiny, the shape lends itself to being some great looking drawer/door pulls (of course smaller).
