I recently saw an umbrella stand at an antique shop. They wanted a few hundred dollars for it. So I thought I could make one like it.

I took two pictures of the antique, did a few sketches, and here’s the finished stand. I used a piece of 2” x 8” x 60” mahagany wood, stained with a mixture of Danish and teakwood oils with a little burnt umber and burnt Siena to darken it. I added the scrolls and rosettes on the top (not in the original design). After putting a few umbrellas in the finished stand I noticed the tips slid all over the bottom rail, so I added the divider stops not done in the antique version.

Very nice separation concept. I like curves and details on top. The bottom rail is also very interesting.

I like it … looks solid. Might we see your photo of the original for comparison? Good job!

Thanks for all the great comments. As for the pictures, bad as I am, I must have deleted them from my cell phone files due to space. I realize now that I really should have kept them and added them to my wood working folder with the drawings.
