Wooden Mallet

It seems like every woodworker has made their own wooden mallet. This was my right of passage into the art of woodworking. I think this is more for chisel work but I find it is great for anything I use a rubber mallet for. This is a simple design, 3/4 inch pieces of walnut and Purple Heart. The maple is 1/8 inch. I cut a 2 degree angle for the mortise and tendon. The handle was the tricky part. I do not have a lathe. I used the bandsaw to cut the candleholder shape. Then sanded a whole lot to make it smooth. I am sure there are much better ways to do this.

Looks great. Wood selection gives a nice contrast. I like the handle.

This is a simple design…

I disagree. It is not a simple, it is super job!

This is a beautiful shop made mallet and a nice addition to your shop.

like the style. How does it feel in your hand after chiseling out a few mortises?

Nice mallet. Just what the doctor ordered.
