Hello,

Long time lurker, first time poster.

For my father’s 65th anniversary. I wanted to give him something meaningful. He loves to play dominoes and he loves his football (soccer) team. So I ended up buying aluminum dominoes from Billet Bones (Ron is a great guy) and made this box to store them.

I am used to coarse woodworking (house framing), but this is the first time I do this type of detail work. I have read all the blogs and projects on LJ and have tried to follow all the knowledge that is posted here. I would like to thank all of you for indirectly helping me make this box.

The box and cribbage board are made of red oak. They are both stained with Saman emerald stain and they are finished with several coats of poly sanded with 400 grain sand paper between each coat. The box has mitered corners and the inside was coated with green flocking.

The team logo is basically a 2” x 2” fridge magnet, ordered from Zazzle, which was inlayed on the box.

I used magnets to hold the cribbage board inside of the box and to keep it closed.

Take care,

Joao Araujo

Love the color of the stain. Is Saman a brand name or part of the color name?

Nice looking box. I’m sure your dad will love it. Great first project!

Hello,

Saman is a brand name water based stain. It is thicker than other water based stains and the grain doesn’t lift too. At least that what it says on the bottle :P

Take care,
