Cutoff Bin

I needed a cutoff bin to sort and store my cutoffs and sheet goods. The Woodsmith Shop plan was perfect. I substitued 1/2 inch PVC for the 1/2 inch electrical conduit in the plans. The bin is just big enough for my needs, but also small enough for my small 1-car garage shop. It fits right next to my tablesaw and bandsaw for easy access. The plans are free from Woodsmith. The TV/DVD episodes showing construction are Season 10, episodes 8, 9 and 10, I believe. I had previously seen these episodes and just built from the plans.

I made one error in drilling the holes for the PVC on the right side. They are not through holes and I drilled them on the wrong side (outside). So I filled the holes with dowels and re-drilled. If this was furniture, I would have just re-cut the piece, but for a shop project, it’s fine. It probably would have been quicker to re-cut the piece, but I wanted to try the dowel technique on a shop project in case I need to do something similar in the future.

I finished with several coats of polyurethane to make vacumming out the sawdust and chips from bin easier.

Thanks for looking!

Very nice job, I think electrical conduit will work better.

Thanks Jack. I expect light duty out of the cart, but if it becomes an issue, I’ll replace the PVC with conduit.

LOL… I hadn’t considered using it for that purpose Charles. Autocorrect, eh?
