I was trying to think of some uses for rare earth magnets in the shop and it turns out they work great for trammel points because they make it so quick to adjust. I made a video showing some other uses for the magnets as well .

Trammel idea great. Bench hook with magnet also a good idea.

Watched video. Only one question. Why did you drill into your drill press head? Those magnets are really strong. All you had to do is stick the magnets in a convenient place on the drill press head and then throw your check key at the magnets. I did the same thing without drilling into my drill press head. Just saying ….

Thanks for sharing your ideas.

Interesting idea. How well do the magnets hold when you put it down and pick it back up?

Another thought I forgot to mention. If you have old disk drives that have crashed on your computer, you can scavenge 2 powerful rare earth magnets from them. They also make good tool holders for places like on your drill press or table saw.

I have RE magnets all over my shop for tool hanging. Hung a big strip of steel over my bench and put them all over it. Hang just the sharp stuff over my head. I love the rush of adrenaline!

@tyvekboy, same here. My drill press has RE magnets all over. Never screwed any of them in though.

How ’’the hell’’ I didn’t thought something like this. I have just perfect scrap ruller in my shop drawer and some magnets. This is definately ’’got to do’’ project this month.

I saw this on your channel Ryan and thought you were going magnet crazy… but the compass was very cool, much easier than a clamp or screw method.

And magnets are great for “storing” all kinds of things.
