Black walnut handmade mallet

Working with the scouts i needed another mallet & i had a piece of black walnut branch.
The grain really is amazing after all the bark stripped off
I used a bit of leather & thick twine to cover the transitions

Mostly used hand tools except a drill to drill the hole in head & handle for leather loop
Since i wedged it on top i didnt peg it with a dowel.

finished with BLO

Curious if most of you mallet makers wedge or peg your mallets each time?
