Tiger Tiger burning bright
In the forests of the night

William Blake 1757-1827
.

.
About 5 months ago, although it seems far away and long ago, I played around with some bandsaw patterns and blogged the results, here

I seem to remember making some vague promise to make boxes out of them. Finally here they are.

These two pencil boxes are of Ebony and English Yew (there are others I have subsequently found) and Birch ply. The corners are finger jointed and the sliding tops are dovetailed. They measure 185 x 56 x 45mm. The sides are 6mm thick, the tops 5mm. They have a finish of wax over sanding sealer.

Thanks all. At last a simple project. I needed the rest after Hypnotoad. I enjoyed making these. There may be more (suitably decorated of course) in the future.

Sweet. Those are cool. Man, you got artistic skills I would kill for. You seem to keep things just a rolling along. I like ‘em.

Steve, I don’t always remember being this ‘artistic’. I think a lot is to be said, as Mary Anne would say, for playing. With ideas, shapes, patterns. There may be something innate to it but I feel a lot can be learned. I would encourage anyone here to give things a try. Play, enjoy, learn.

Hey Martyn!
I love your work, especially ‘Hypnotoad’. These pencil boxes are an inspiration too. ‘Pen’ boxes next?

Very nice pencil boxes Martyn. You always come up with candy for the eye.

I think I will just second Larry’s comment.

I like these… and I appreciated your “how to” posting… now, I need to get out and get a bandsaw. Thank you for your postings.
