Hi, here are some pictures of a table that I have recently completed. The table top burl is Jarrah (Eucalyptus marginata) and the base is from a “Silver Princess” (Eucalyptus caesia) which came down in a storm some time ago. The third photo is how the burl looked in its original condition – rather hacked with a chain saw. To get a smooth surface on the burl I built the jig in the fourth photo and it work surprisingly well.

How did you attach the log base to the top?

Well done. Great looking wood. I like the jig you made, very creative.

Thanks for the great comments!
@ Donald: the finish is 2 coats of Danish Oil and sanded with a 600 grit wet n dry paper.
@ Kelly (Rivergirl): I made wooden table top attachments which are similar to the ones in the link below. The allow for seasonal movement of the wood.

Nice table Stephen! Just this week I made a bookcase with Jarrah for an Aussie that now lives here. He brought the wood with him when he moved!

You must have been wagging your tail for some time after completing that table Stephen. A most interesting planing jig, have you tried planing with the ski mounted router and a large bottom cleaning bit?
