I bought the lathe to turn the legs on the dining table project then decided last fall to try my hand at making some bowls. Solid wood ones turned out okay so I moved into some simple segmented bowls. Only problem is that my wife decided I should make enough for all of our neighbors for Christmas so she could fill them with homemade treats since we always make something each year – 15 bowls later I breathed a sigh of relief! Only scared myself with catches a few times and I look forward to getting a bigger lathe when I retire from the Air Force and stop moving so I can work on some bigger bowls… :-)

I wish I were your neighbor, I love the bowls, and what a wonderful idea as gifts, what kinda treats are we talking about here?

Great work Jim. When I bought my lathe I did a few bowls then turned to pen making. I made 30 or so pens for the relatives & work mates. You sure have a nice finish on those bowls.

Great job,I like the way your finish has that super gloss look. The color & texture of each piece is brilliant.I have a small hobbie lathe.I dabble with turning logs into bottles, flasks and oditties.
