The Porthole Vessel. 273 pieces of oak and walnut. 13 ½” tall and 9” in diameter. I raided the Caterpillar pallet pile and reclaimed the oak. Even though it was quite a bit of extra work, I like to try and make something out of old useless wood whenever possible. The only downside to recycling old pallets is the time it takes to pull all of the spiral nails and the milling of the wood to the proper size.
I got the idea for the portholes with braided electrical wire from a YouTube clip that I’d recently watched. It was a little bit trickier than I had expected, but with a little epoxy and some patience it finally all came together.

That’s so nice.
And love it when a plan comes together, one of them how in the world did he do that!

Fantastic form!

I also really appreciate the in-process photos. As someone who likes to explore forms through segmented turning, it is great to see how others piece together forms, how they turn them in stages, etc.

Awesome work

Well done. Unique idea of using the wire and port holes. I like the form and the fact you used reclaimed wood. Nice job.

Outstanding colour and design. I like that unusual wire inserts. It’s quite strenghtened this way, besides that it looks cool.
