I’m pretty far behind on my project postings. I have a few gifts for grandchildren I need to post. I built this set for my 7 month old granddaughter. She has been enjoying it which a lot of fun for me!

The box was created after I had finished the contents. The box construction is based on Andy’s palm box concept. I added tapered sides and a sloped lid. The box sides are maple and the lid is a piece of figured walnut.

Each rattle has a bird’s eye maple center and various species for the caps.

The smallest has cherry caps, the middle one has Wenge caps with a veneer layer of mahogany and the largest has holly caps. Dry red beans are inside each rattle. They each have a unique sound. They all have a salad bowl finish on them.

PS. I just added a blog on the build.

Thanks guys,

Lew - luckily they are small :) Her older brother has a good arm on him though.

Paul - The toys are fun to share, but there is no hurry.

Nice work Steve. That collection is great.

Good changes to the box too. I will probably steal that.

Thanks Andy – I don’t think it’s stealing when its your concept. More like adopting an upgrade…

Oh, I’m pretty sure that any throwing will result in consequences. She has good parents (I’m a little biased) :)

Very nice. It’s so much fun when the little ones enjoy those homemade gifts.
Good work.

Thanks everyone! It is a lot of fun to see grandkids enjoying something I made.

And Steve (spalm) – I don’t know why I confused you with Andy, but you can use the idea anyway!

Very cool design Steve and so well done too. These look like they might survive several babies!

Excellent gift for her Steve, I expect she will save them for her grandchildren.
