Money Box

This box did not start off as a money box. It was just an attempt to do a segmented turning.
The problem is I’m not sure what the wood is because I put it aside months ago as I did not put enough hardener in the epoxy or did not mix it well enough (a lesson to be learned).
As a result the glue took ages to set & I just moved on to something else & forgot about it.
I picked it up a few days ago & decided to finish the job.
It’s been that long since I started I forgot what wood is in it. The lighter colour looks like radiata pine & I think the other is Australian red cedar.
After thinking what to do with it the idea came for a money box to take $2 coins, about 50 all told.
The centre core is aluminium tubing.
Finished with several coats of wipe on poly.
Thanks for looking.

Nice work Tony. After you get it filled up, send it over-to me. Cool design.

Usual shaped money box, looks too nice to just store a handful of coin.

Thanks Pottz &Dave
Peter, you are right but it was a case of what do I use it for rather than just look at it on the shelf.

Once in a while, Tony, you step away from interesting trees, and show some really interesting talent.

Grumpy, you did an amazing job on this piece. It’s a wonderful eye catcher.

Whatever kind of wood it is, you made it yours! Interesting glue-up and final shape, Tony! Is “money box” a downunder term? Congrats on your DT3!

Thanks everyone for you nice feedback.
Candy, I wasn’t aware ‘money box’ was an Aussieism. What would you call one in the States?.
