Do you lay out a pattern on paper before turning? What do you color with? BTW very nice platter.

That is really beautiful Dave, I bought a beading chisel a couple of weeks ago but haven’t mustered the nerve to try this.

I attended the AAW Woodturning symposium in Kansas City last year and saw Harvey Meyer demo the process.
This got me hooked. I started by drawing the pattern on polar graph paper. This was my 4th attempt and I was very happy with the outcome. I used Faber Castel Pitt artist pens you can buy from Hobby Lobby. Harvey Meyer is on YouTube if you wish to review his process.

The piece was awarded 1st runner-up Best of Show at 2017 Iowa State Fair.
