First set of cabinets I built and installed while not at work.

I would have took more photos but the customer was running me out, as I was putting the pulls on she was filling the cabinets up. Not as fancy as the ones I build at work, but I don’t have all the machines either.
The boss kinda frowned on me building a set when he found out, I guess he thought I’m cutting into his business.

Well, Aaron, as long as you don’t contact any of his customers and also do it on your own time with your equipment and material I don’t see anything wrong with it. Let’s face it, that’s the way many people get started. That’s a nice set of cabinets.

Thanks I’m trying to start my own shop, But I’m doing it VERY slowly. I don’t want to get burnt out on it before I can get started.

Nice cabinets. Keep up the good work, I’m sure you’ll have guys working for you before long.

Aaron, Looks like you did a great job on the cabinets. Sounds like your boss might be a little nervous of your abilities. LOL…......He probably felt pretty secure in keeping you as an employee, but now that he knows you can do the whole job from start to finish, now he knows he may have some competition. I did have a question about the door swing on some of the cabinets. Not trying to be critical, but usually doors swing open for easy access to the particular work station on that wall. In your picture, if you are working at the stove and want anything from either the upper cabinet or the base cabinet left of the stove, you open the door towards the stove, which actually creates a wall between you and the cabinet opening. Also the base cabinet right of the stoe and the upper cabinet all the way to the right next to the angled cabinet, you would have to stand tight in the corner to get to that cabinet (especially using 105 or 120 degree Euro hinges. The customer may have wanted them that way ( and the customer is always right), but if the customer does not specify, I usually try to picture myself working in the kitchen and see how the doors work the best. Sorry…......just food for thought. Great job and hope you have your own shop real soon. Good luck.

I felt the same way, she brought in a design that Lowes did and they had the doors opening that way, so that was the way she wanted them. “I wasn’t going to bite the hand that feeds me”, she was thrilled with the outcome, so I’m happy.

Aaron, Good job, you listened to your customer. Like I said before, The customer is alway right ( even if they don’t have a clue). If she’s happy, that’s all the matters. Again, it looks like you’re off to a good start of having your own business. Keep up the good work and best of luck.
