This is a Murphy bed that I finished in November 2017. I call it the Alpine. The Alpine Murphy Bed is something I build regularly since it has a simple face, but this time I added lots of customization. The Alpine is characterized by the four flat panel doors across the face. The changes on this are the Outset lights, Stay-level desk and the bookcases on this sides.

Since the Murphy Bed Light System is on the outside it had to be controlled in two different places. There is a touch sensor in the center of the headboard and also on the side of one of the bookcases. Instead of having the lights inside the cabinet, I extended the top header to let these LED lights overhang the desk section.  Now the lights can be used with either the bed or the desk.

The Murphy Bed bookcases are 24 inches wide and because of the outset lights, I was able to make them deeper which made room for a printer. Both sides have adjustable shelves at the top and file drawers at the bottom.  The right side has additional file drawers in the mid-section.  On my file folder drawers, I do something very unique. I build the hanging mechanism into the drawers so there is no need for a bulky wire rack.

I also added a pullout drink tray that can be used when the bed is in use, or as an extension to your work surface with the desk.  It is simply a flat board with a small drawer front pocked on it. I used full extension rails to attach it.

Normally with the desk I build, the desk would have to be cleared off before using the bed, but for this bed, everything can stay on the desk as long as it is 8 1/2” or lower. The desk will stay level as it transitions into the bed.

Have you ever mounted a couple of flat panel monitors directly to the underside of the bed to use in “desk” mode?
That way they would be our of the way when folded down for bed mode without the need to move them off the desk.

So practical solution for small apartments. Looks awesome too.

You did a very nice job on this Murphy bed. It has a beautiful design and lots of nice highlights.
