this is a custom desk i have made for some friends who live here in my area, they love and have horses so i wanted to add a custom touch to there table so i inlay’d a horse into the table top with a piece of paduak, the table is made from a variety of woods, the top is oak with walnut butter boards, the skirting is made from poplar and red cedar and the legs are tapered antique southern heart pine. the boxes for the drawers are red cedar and the drawers are red oak with a walnut front, all of the drawer handles are paduak with a walnut inlay through the center, and there is also a strip of exotic wood on the top and bottom of the drawers which is called kwila. all of the joinery is mortise and tenon , pinned with oak dowels, and then the finish is with a gloss polyurethane. Ive worked on this desk for about three weeks and loved every minute of it, this was a special project for me. i hope you enjoy looking at it and i thank you for doing so, any comments are welcome, thank you …grizzman

Wow!! This is absolutely beautiful! I love the different woods and the finish really sets them off wonderfully! The inlay horse is also a great accent. I think the horse inlay piece is perfect, too. It is a beautiful design and I am sure that they are going to love the project. Great job on it!

Hey Grizz. This is a beautiful piece with great use of a variety of wood species. There is so much to enjoy about this piece. The oak table top has such great character to it. I imagine that is reclaimed lumber based on the nail holes I see? The horse inlay adds such a personal touch to the piece and the kwila (haven’t heard of that one before) adds a unique color to the entire piece. Well done my friend, well done!

Wow, Grizz… that is one sweet desk! I love the wood combinations, the two drawer set on each side and the strength of the piece both in look and in construction. It is truly a wonderful gift to your friends.
