First bandsaw box

This is my first attempt at a bandsaw box. My girlfriend, Chasity designed the shape and came up with the idea of using a calcite rock for the drawer pull so she gets all the design credit. All I did was make it into a box, haha. I’ve been looking at these on here for months now wondering how in the heck did they cut the drawers like that. I thought this was too hard for me to attempt, but then I saw one of Steve’s “Mere Mortals” videos and the clouds parted and heavens light shown down upon me,haha. Man these things are a breeze. Mine is by no means perfect, in fact I cut the drawer upside down so the top is supposed to be the bottom. But as a first attempt, I’m pleased with it and so is she, and thats really all that matters. My apologies for the crappy pics. My photography is worse than my woodworking. Oh yeah, this is claro walnut finished with BLO.

I have been meaning to try my hand at these, but just haven’t found the right piece of wood yet. Yours looks great. Gotta love that walnut. It polishes up so nicely.

I guess it’s time for me to ask a stupid question ! How does the woodworker get the bandsaw blade in and out of the space between the drawers and the shell ? Great looking box.

Well Joe, I have to admit, when I first saw these I was convinced that there was some dark arts/black magic at work to achieve this, haha.

Very nice. I bet your gal won’t let it out of her site. I’ve built a few of them. Get some flocking for the inside of the drews. BZ

Looks great! Just did one myself. They are fun to make and little to no stress involved. Like Steve Marin from “Woodworking for mere mortals” says “You can’t do it wrong!”

Nice looking first box. Watch out these things can be almost as addictive as pens.

Great job on your first bandsaw box. Better watch out for the girl friend. She will want to keep all the ones you make from now on.

Nice work, particularly as it is your first bandsawn box – and an original design – well done!

Mike, it is 3” x 3” x 6”. Thanks everybody for the compliments on the design. Chasity is sitting next to me reading these and she is grinning like a possum. Ya’ll have made her day, which in turn makes my day.

Thanks everybody,
