So I am about to undertake a project that is centered around a Mission Style end table and I am going to be doing alot of handcut mortise and tennon, im a little nervous as I am not too proficient at using hand tools, but we live and learn.

Anyway I went to woodcraft and couldnt find a joiners mallet with a flat face so I decided to youtube this for inspiration and I found this on Woodworking for Mere Mortals and it hand Steve Ramsey make it from scratch I also found pdf plans for free

Anyway I went to get all the supplies for the mallet at my local HD which included
2ft of oak
2ft of maple
and a container of bb’s.

By the way the pictures above for this project is not in its finished state as I never took pictures of the danish oil that I added and I also trimmed the protruding handle with the walnut wedges and Iwill post these pictures as soon as I get back to the workshop in the coming days

Anyway wish me luck with cutting the mortise & tennon joints.

One more thing while I was at Woodcrafts I saw the “Smart Vise from Sjobergs hat I really needed since I dont have a great vise for hand tool woodworking and as usual cant afford it, so I found a project online that is a knockoff version using oak and construction grade lumber, I will post that as soon as I am done.

Anyway I hope you enjoyed reading about this latest project of mine and I wish everyone a Happy New Year.

Nice job. I like the unusual head shape. I still use my first mallet.
