This is a redwood burl bowl that I just finished. It is a combination of hand carved and lathe turned. I just got my first lathe about a two weeks ago. I had already carved out the inside by hand and I just couldn’t resist the urge to finish the outside on the lathe. I was scared to death about gluing that waste block to the inside of this dude. Then I thought I had turned too much off of the bottom and just knew that when I went to knock the waste block off I would break it, but it came off fine. So I guess you could say that this is the first half of my first lathe turned bowl, haha. I love those pretty eyes. This is definitely one of my most favorite woods. It is 8 3/4 in diameter and 2 5/8” tall, finished with two coats of Watco butcher block oil dried for a week then sprayed with 3 coats of lacquer.
