I made this for my Father-in-law for Christmas present. It has a magnetic child cabinet lock installed. The shelf is locked until you put a magnetic in the right spot. Then the bottom unlocks and opens. The magnet can be hidden in an object on the shelf and it just needs to be moved into place for quick access. He already put his handgun in it lol. I was Son-in-law of the year award! But that’s easy when I’m his only Son-in-law…

Very nice, I’ve made a lot of these, But I use a gas spring strut instead of a chain, You can get them here https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016UOFEPK/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I36T8DSXQ6KGPD&colid=1ZT291QJCS6JR&psc=1 30N is plenty but I’ve used 40N / 50N for larger ones, I made one 52” long for a rifle. There’s a 36” one on my project page.

Unfortunately I didn’t come up with the idea. I copied it from others I’ve seen online.

MJR, thanks for the idea. I’ll have to use them on my next build!

When I build them for guns I also use 1 1/2” or 2” black foam, You cut out to the shape of the gun and clips, Attach it with carpet tape or double sided tape, You can get it on Amazon or other places online
