Workbench Extension Table

My new workbench was intended to provide two stations for relief carving – one station at the end vise, and the second station at the side vise.

However, while the vises served their purpose well, there was not enough surface area remaining on the bench for students to lay their tools out. So I decided to add an extension table onto which students could more conveniently lay their tools.

Since I had already made a sliding “dead man” for the bench, I wondered if it could be employed as the “stand” for the extension table, which I hoped would be easily removed for times when the workbench was not hosting two students.

The result is a table that attaches to the dead man with dowels, and which can slide the length of the bench as needed.

That is a really cool rig! But you could be right for me too :-( I’m not overly organized and flat surfaces collect things – my wife hates it :-)
