this box came to life during a quiet lunch time at work…the thought that passed through my mind went a little something like this…...must practice my dovetails…..and so it was born. the wood i found laying around in the depths of sawdust around the workshop.. machined it into 4 pieces of clean timber…set up a sliding bevel to 1;8 and sharpened a pencil and set out marking lapped dovtails..it was just ment to be a simple square when finished…but then my imagination got the better of me …i added a raised and fielded panel for the base(not in photos..sorry but it matches the top).and o thought i was happy…but allas…the sawdust that flowed through my young vains would not let me rest…...i had to put a lid on …...but then another thought passed through my mind….a secret place ….a few scetches later and a few more miters i was there….a lovely square box…..4 flat square sides and a panel for the top…again i could not leave it alone..it felt unfished…not worthy of polish….so i ground up some cutters for the spindle moulder and went mad and push the limits of my self but also the spindle….at last i was there…reached the end like frodo with the ring….at last i could rest….polish was layed on like a silk coat and my hiden stash of tools lay snuggled inside…ps if you have just read this well done and thank you… :)

Nice. Roy Underhill did a couple similar ones a couple of years back, one a bible box and one a candle box if I remember correctly. Neither looked this nice though… Both had a secret compartment, one in the top like yours and one had a false bottom.

Really cute! The little guy that is! The box isn’t bad either.
