My latest table build, Dining table made from wormy chestnut. The top was made from reclaimed 2xs and the legs were 4×4 beams. They wanted the table to look as old as possible and chose to go with a top that looked like separate boards. I did this by putting a slight bevel on the boards before the glue up. The legs were finished with a 2 sided taper.

Nicely done. What kind of finish did you use for the top?

I always liked the beveled look on jointed boards, but those grooves sure do trap dirt.

The table was finished with several coats of minwax tung oil wiping varnish and satin poly.

I like this simple table a lot. It is so nice and warm. I can see spilled soup on it, wrapping presents and people playing cards or dominoes on it. I see this for a new family. But that is how it hits me.

Really nice table, love the warmth of the wood.

Was this from a structure that was torn down? I’ve reused a lot of barn wood, with many species, just never any Chestnut. Lucky You.
