One of the many refurbishment projects I’ve made.
These are two newel posts, based on a frame and panel design I saw in Fine Homebuilding a few years back.

I like the flutes – adds a lot to the posts. Very nicely done – looks like they’ve always been there.

-- I've never seen a tree that I wouldn't like to repurpose into a project. I love the smell of wood in the morning - it smells like victory.

Thanks for the comments.
I had to make L shaped brackets to screw them to the floor on all 4 sides at their bases.
And I hollowed out the base trim to accommodate those brackets, so they were not visible from the outside.
They’ve been really strong for quite some time.
The railings were just cut at 90 degrees, and fit into the blocks on the back top sides.

The posts blend in perfectly with the stair and railing system. Good work.

Thanks, I think we are going to replace the railings as well, to match the oak though.
They are fir, and somewhat darker, and my wife would like slightly more updated spindles as well.

Those are nice and I agree, you should change the railings as well to match.
