Salad bowl--Seriously who eats salad in December? New Year's Resolution coming up

Christmas time—Makes me think of cooking wonderful, yummy, calorie-laden goodies. I made cookie jars for three daughters. They are most excellent bakers. I have another daughter who is incredibly healthy, beautiful, slim, and prefers salads to cookies (hard to believe, isn’t it). With that thought in mind, I made a salad bowl as an addition to her serving ware. I used a 12×12 inch piece of half-inch Baltic birch plywood and made a salad bowl for her.

The diameter is 11 inches, height 3 3/4 inches. Glue up was with Tite Bond III. First layer of finish was amber shellac, followed by urethane salad bowl finish. It should be okay to hand wash.

I don’t like salad in December either, but this bowl is great.

Funny thing is I’m not a real healthy eater but I had a salad last night as we were out to eat. Just thinking about all the different kinds of cookies my niece sent up yesterday made me behave a little bit – to save room for more Christmas treats!
Beautiful looking bowl! Plywood seems to be showing up more and more these days as something to try. Maybe I’ll clean up my scraps and try turning it as well!

Yes, in December we tend to use green leafy things as decorations instead of food, but that makes salad bowls a GREAT gift idea – further incentive to start the New Year off with healthy eating habits. (And by Super Bowl Sunday the salad bowl can be used for chips, or popcorn.) LOL Thanks for posting, Merry Christmas.

Nicely done, I am just about to step into the garage to start a new bowl too.
