This one is all abou the wood, not the skills. After hurricane Harvey i was scrounging craigslist in the free section and saw an ad for free wood. Ad said he had some maple and oak. So i called and he said we could meet on a couple of weeks. We met at his house, turns out he had a couple of feet of water in his house and his garage where his wood was kept. Luckily he had it leaning against the wall. Turns out he gave me two pieces of 2”x12”x8’ walnut two pieces of 2”x10”x8’ cherry a bunch of 1”x12” oak, some poplar, some small pieces of paduak and purple heart. All of it was rough cut and most of it had been in the water. I cut off what got wet plus a foot and made sure what was left wasnt going to warp. He wouldnt take any money or help cleaning up his house.

First project from the wood was this box my brother will use to showcase his custom made rifle. Dimesions are approximately 11” x 50” x 7” deep. Resawed and planed down to 1/2”. Corners are box joints. Finished with shellac. I used a full length piano hinge. His plans are to finish the inside with leather and install a leather handle. I will post finished inside when my brother finishes.

This is a beautiful gun case and the wood is beautiful.
