We’ve purchased several wine barrels over the years. Most I cut in half for planters. ...Boring.

Last year I decided to try and make a table and stools. I glued up some 6/4 red oak, made a hole cutting jig for a router, cut the outer diameter then the inner.

We bought a couple of beautiful, non-weathered barrels from a winery in Temecula. I stripped one of them, sanded and stained it. Put in a hundred or so screws through the hoops to control seasonal movement. (We have no seasons, haha, probably don’t need ‘em.)

Had a few very weathered whiskey barrels we got a few years ago. Took them apart and, after some heavy sanding, used the staves and hoops to make 4 stools.

All is finished with a stain I concocted from 3 Minwax oil stains, 4 coats tung/citrus oil.

Thanks! They were 80 bucks each when I got them. Now, at least $120 each and hard to find.
