My cousin dedicated nearly 30 years of his life to the marine corps and I promised him I would build him a retirement gift to be proud of.
The case is made of the most beautiful figured cherry I could find and the appliqué on the doors is made of bloodwood and yellowheart. The box is 2’ wide X 3’ tall when closed.
The bomb that signifies his rank is etched into the glass so that when the lights are turned on it lights up. I added another strip of LEDs up top for better light distribution after we took the pictures.
The hinges are SOSS 103 hidden hinges because I think piano hinges look trashy not classy.
The doors open a full 180°.

Very cool! When I first read the title I thought is was going to be a bulldog gunny face set into a dart board, for people to throw darts at. This is better!

A very well constructed and presented project.
Choice of timber, Tick
Method of framing, Tick
Emblishment work, Tick
hinges, Tick
Lining, Tick
Lighting, Tick
functionality, Tick
Finish, Tick
Skill, Tick
Presentation, Tick

So thats a 10 outta 10 !!, ....except for,

1. The lack of a profile picture, you could maybe use part of the “Custom Sign” post hint hint, and,
2. Some construction story and a few more pickies would be really good,... like how you did the hinges for example.

As I am old an unattracttive I just used my house as a profile picture, however anything but the boring default image will do !!

Keep up the good work!
