Walnut entertainment center, this is piece two of three for my brother in law. It matches the coffee table I made earlier. You can see the coffee table “in situ” in the last picture.

This was a big project… Literally (it’s 6” longer than my workbench, making assembly rather challenging!) and figuratively… only the 2nd piece of furniture I’ve made.

Soon to be followed by an end table. And they’ll be going to a good home (with a great view!!

Great looking wood and nice work! I don like the view and was about to comment on where your workspace was if you lived in a loft, but I guess you’ve answered that question already. I hope your BIL understands how much better quality furniture he’s getting over the IKEA stuff he was probably looking at…

Thanks, twored… Believe me, he understands! He was never even considering IKEA, and was willing to give me the chance to build my first two pieces of furniture for him. Not to mention patient… That walnut’s been slowly morphing into this since December!

Mark, I started the whole thing with a coat of no-wax shellac, then the top got 5 or 6 coats of satin poly with a brush, 400grit between coats, then two coats of wipe-on poly, finished off with renaissance wax (upon delivery, as you can see!). Body got four coats of wipe-on poly, shelves got something like 6 or 8 coats.

Great design. It looks like they got all the equipment to load it up.

Excellent job! Another finely built piece of furniture. I like the clean lines. You are doing good for your only second furniture piece!
