Rosewood Nightstands

Finally got around to building the night stands for a rosewood bed I made a decade ago. As is my inclination, I decided to build in a secret compartment into the design. The top of the stand slides forward on wooden rails to access a compartment towards the rear of the stand. (Pics 3 & 6) The drawer is also on wooden rails with an hand shaped pull. Half rounded accents were added to the front to blend it in with the half rounded side spindles enclosing the lower shelf and matches the accents on the bed. The wood is a mix of rosewood and pradue. Assembly is with dowels and finish is multiple coats of urethane. There was a period of fine tuning the drawer and top sliders due to tight build tolerances when the rainy season hit and the wood swelled up.

Thanks for viewing. One of these days I will post the matching rosewood bed.

Hi Andrek,

I agree that rosewood has a rich and deep finish that increases as the wood ages over the years. While the wood is easy to work be aware that rosewood is very ‘gummy’ as you will find your saw blades need a good cleaning after the project. The good news is that it cleans up fairly easy with a petroleum based solvent.

Happy holidays,
