Mulberry-Black Walnut Box

I built this from a mulberry tree that was cut down at my wife’s office. It was already dead so it did not need much drying time. It’s 2×4 x 7. The hummingbird is carved from black walnut. I finished it with 3 coats of oil-varnish mixture and then 3 coats of wax.

Working wood from scratch is interesting. You see all the different grain and try to figure out how to get it to show.

I don’t believe I have seen any Mulberry used before, nice finish!

Great box. Have never seen mulberry – how does it work? Nice looking wood and a very nice looking box. Terrific job on the humming bird.
