American flag gift

I needed to get one of my arms touched up by my favorite local tattoo artist, and when I went to the shop to book an appointment, I saw they were expanding into the building next to them. I figured every shop needs a sign, so this is what I came up with.

Made from strips ripped off a 2×4, it measures roughly 17” x 30” with a union of 12”. I picked up a can of Varethane navy stain, which looks awesome for this application. Each of the strips was distressed on the spindle sander before hit with a blowtorch and stained. I engraved the name of the shop along with 4 American traditional roses after staining, which worked out surprisingly well.

This is also a bit of a prototype for some more christmas gifts to come….

Thanks for looking, any comments or suggestions welcome!

Beautiful rustic style. Interesting technic with blowtorch before stain.

Hey Tooch… Your flag has a nice very nice look to it with the way you scorched the wood before staining! The blue and red colors are a perfect shade!

Thanks Frank, Charles, and Ivan.

Tony here is what I used for color, which came out better than what I had thought:

That is awesome. Did one for my sons room with the leftovers when we built his whole room full of furniture. It remains his favorite thing…and the only piece we built that he will not budge on when he moves out.
