well it’s that time of the month again folks .

i am cleaning up the house .
so far i have gotten maybe 100 sq ft of 1,600 somewhat presentable !

these old box pictures surfaced , so i thought i’d show them .
(before they disappear into the new organized pile , lol) .

all are aromatic cedar lined , for the native american church people .

boxes seem to have a life of their own ,
they may be intended for one person ,
but over time may find new homes ,
and other lives to touch .

i do my best to go along with this ,
and build them with that in mind now .

may they enrich the lives of those they find .

that’s about it for now ,

have a great day !

David, each box you build does have a life of it’s own. They also have their own personalities and your flair or style. I think I could pick your work out of a line up of 500 boxes, they are truly one of a kind.

Nice boxes, Very nice arrangement of different colored woods.

One question, what material is the baseboard for the sides on photos 4, 5 and 6.? There was no moulding. Will it be okay to apply glue on the edges after cutting and let it dry? I am always afraid of the splitting effect in wood on the end grain.

Thanks for posting.

mario,
that box is in new hampshire ,
it is getting married this september !
i have no choice ,
spaced out is my karma , lol !

scott,
i have made at least 750 boxes
over the years ,
could you still find one of mine in that lineup (LOL) ?

bert,
the exotic is bonded to the cedar from the start
3/4” to 3/4” as boards ,
then split and re-split again ,
it winds up as maybe 5/16” of both ,
so far no checking .

Very nice David,
That brings back memories of things I have done in the past,
that are now gone.

And I believe you are right. Something as simple and useful and subtly beautiful as a box probably has many many lives.

Wow David! You really do have an amazing eye for design. I love the last one on the left, the stripes are such a unique idea. It’s gorgeous. I can only imagine that all of these will be well-loved for an extremely long time.

martyn ,
good answer ,
cause i’m not giving you my
macbook ,
i need it for my homework , lol !

lis,
both those boxes are from each other ,
if i make them for a couple ,
i make them in mirror image .
if separate , i change the directions ,
(flip one over or turn it around) ,
there are 4 ways to change them ,
but they are still from the same parts .
