Spent some time in the shop this afternoon and turned a Retro style pen out of Kingwood. My wife likes the pen, it is balanced well and it is slightly smaller than an average pen… fits well in the hand. I included a shot with another pen I made out of Kingwood, a Navigator pen… they seem to go together well! My wife would like me to make her one, but out of Bloodwood. I think she is too addicted to the vampire Twilight series!

Nice looking pen. What kinda finish did you use?

After sanding from 120 grit up to 12,000 micro mesh, I used Myland’s Cellulose Sanding Sealer for a base. I followed this with EEE-Ultra Shine Paste Wax to give a final base and seal all pores (big difference using both instead of only one)... then Myland’s Friction Polish. I finished off with Renaissance Wax. I also put the Renaissance Wax on the pen parts to keep finger prints from sticking.

I haven’t gotten into CA finish yet, since this approach seems to put on a great finish.
