I came across this fellow in centerville ohio that spins throw tops in contests all over the country, he asked me if I could make him some tops, I said I can try, I have made him 25 tops so far, he loves them, They are made on a Jet 12 36 wood lathe, out of various types of wood. They are very fun to play with. And exciting to watch spin.

The gentelman that I made the tops for supplied the points, I have looked far and wide for them, cannot find them.

Haven’t seen or played with one of these in years. Those are really nice. If I ever get a lathe again, I’m going to make some of these.

Nice work!

I’m the top spinner Roger is talking about. Actually, I’m from Miamisburg, Ohio
but I’m very close to Centerville. I’ve really enjoyed throwing Roger’s tops and
I think there will be lots of others out there throwing his tops very soon. I took
a bunch of them to a top club in Kettering and they loved them. Top spinners
are always looking for a good wood turner to work with. Hope you all can find
some top spinners in your area to enjoy your creations. Top spinners from
around the world meet at the topspinning.com forum. Sure would love to have
any of you visit there sometime.

We’ve been experimenting with different types of wood. It seems,
for the size we are working with, that heavier and denser woods
spin longer. Of course, well balanced tops spin better also. It’s
sometimes hard to get the tip in just right and to find wood that
is the same density throughout.

By the way, here is a link you will love. We just got it on topspinning.com
The video is of a man who makes tops year round in a little village in France.
He makes some very creative finger spinners.

I made one for my neighbor who is from El Salvador. He said they used special string in his home country. What do you use? By the way …nice work
