Well, here it is, my first box. You can see the whole story about it and many more pictures of it in my latest blog

It has been a long road of learning, but I am fairly pleased with the results… Thanks for taking the time to look!

Scott,
A fine display box for your Iraqi service memorabilia. Your dovetails are tight and the finish looks fantastic. If this is your “first” box, then you are going to be a fine woodworker. Thanks for your service in Iraq.

Thanks calgirl, (btw, my name is Jim…) It means allot to hear this about my first box. I notice a lot of areas I can improve on, but I am happy with the results.

Thanks for your service, my son just returned from Iraq his service was up in June, he was 82 Airborne. Nice box, so far boxes have been difficult for me getting things to square up. I have a couple started boxes in my cabinets, unfinished and still in pieces, nice work.

I have really been pullin’ for you on this project. Watching you struggle through and then pull it out this nice has been fun to follow. You’ll do fine woodworking. I still learn on every project myself.

Nice work.

Thanks for posting and allowing us to be a part of your woodworking experience.

Hey Sarge, for all that whining about all the problems you had making this, it ended up looking like it was done by an old pro who has cranked out a couple hundred of these in his carreer! Excellent work!

Great work, man. If you used any filler on those dovetails (as mentioned in the blog) I sure can’t see it. I’ve built a few shadow boxes for others, but none for myself yet. 8 years to retirement. Who knows, maybe we could commission one another to build retirement shadow boxes.

Nicely done. Now you have a project that represents two memories: your tour and your woodworking

The first thing I noticed was how tight those dovetails were. Then I realized that they were also hand cut. This is what “craftsmanship” is all about. Keep it up!

Thank you all for the comments. It really means allot to me. Being that this was my first box and also that it was going to house items that mean allot to me, I was really nervous about how the final product would turn out. But again, I am very pleased and really appreciate all the nice things you all have to say!
