I normally do not do commission work, however, a friend in Texas asked for a couple jewelry boxes for grandaughters in Michigan.
How does a person say no ?
He wanted them close to identical with their name on them and above is the end result. Anybody notice how closely it imitates somebody elses boxes ? I know I’ll never catch up but I’m happy with these.
One box is red oak and the second is white oak. Both have a cherry lid with a cherry handle that is ‘let into’ the lid after separation.
The sliding trays are cherry sides with luan bottom and pink felt for Sasha and purple felt for Lexi.
I didn’t spline the corners because I got lucky and the miters were as close to perfect as I have ever done and I wanted them to do their job on their own.
With the help of some tutorials I found here I was able to install piano hinges without my usual trial and ERROR method.
So, in summing up, if you like them it’s all because of the box guy, if you don’t like them, you can blame the box guy.

Thanks Al for your unselfish informative tutorials -

Nice work, these look very nice. I’m sure they will be received with much pleasure.

So, the box gets credit for likes and dislikes, does he get the commission too?

Nicely done Dick. I like the handles in front and if you don’t mind, I’ll use that design on the five boxes I have to make.
