I have always had a tailgate bench on my woodworking project bucket list ever since I saw the first one. A friend just bought a place with a shop and she likes the Willys Jeeps so it seemed like a good choice.
I built it out of pine 4×4’s and the slats are pine and walnut to make it more interesting. The arm rests are cedar and I finished it with three coats of polyurethane.

So what is the going price for a Willys tailgate? Not that cheap, I would think.
Nice piece, like the way you used the original hinges on the seat.

Thanks, I got the tailgate from a Junk yard for $50 then sandblasted it and a friend painted it.

Great idea to make ’’not ordinary’’ bench. Those metal plates are very suitable match for the theme.
