This is is coffee table built from 6/4 Canadian Cherry, I designed it after seeing one on here but with a more alien look where I think this one has a more organic look.
I built a Sam Maloof pedestal table from a set of templaters and article from Wood magazine. I then quickly decided ” hey I like this table, I bet it would look great like this. So that was that I started designing off of those build techniques.
The ellipse was created with a mdf template we made then flush trimmed
3 Days later a table appeared, it was sanded to 500 then went over with a wool pad before the hand rubbed oil finish.
I really enjoyed designing and building this table, I hope to build many more.
The last picture is with a walnut and lace wood small sculpted rocking chair, I think they complement each other very nicely.

Great table! That has to be the first piece of maloof inspired furniture a lumberjock made that isn’t a sculpted rocking chair. Did the article in Wood mag talk about the construction of the pedestal. What issue was it?

Here is the link to the article that I made my first table off of, this table has been adapted from those templates. I have not taken pictures of that table but I will today
It’s actually popular wood working sorry.
Thanks for the inspiration from all of you, I was so excited how well this turned out that I started designing a coffee trestle table in the Maloof way.
Also I will be making this table asap out of walnut (-:
